On Thursday 14th January 2021, the Greener Waldringfield group held its inaugural general meeting via zoom and an informal group of passionate believers in sustainable living became a formal force for carbon cutting in our local area.
With the agreement on a constitution and the election of key officer roles, the more formal standing of the group will give it direction and importantly, access to funding for projects following the declaration of a climate emergency for the village of Waldringfield earlier this year.
It is the latest declaration in a string of declarations made by local councils country wide. With a steady newsfeed of worldwide habitat destruction, the plague of plastic waste, food security, ecological collapse, rising sea levels, wildfires and droughts flooding us from all directions, and the effects of climate change starting to play out before us with hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters, the task facing humanity seems insurmountable. So much so, it would be sensible to think that such a task should start with those who hold the most power. but, there is a growing belief that tackling this task needs to start lower down, in small communities, just like ours… the country over.
With the ultimate goal of helping Waldringfield achieve net zero carbon emissions, how Greener Waldringfield will lead the way is yet to unfold, but reader, watch this space…
If you would like to join the group and help affect real green change in your area then don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’re a friendly bunch.
